As the offseason winds down, the focus is now on the 2025 racing season for Maddux Pepin, the Canadian Vintage Modified (CVM) driver who made waves last year by claiming the prestigious title of Rookie of the Year. With the season fast approaching, Pepin is gearing up for another year of growth, performance, and friendly competition. We caught up with him to discuss his goals, challenges, and plans for the upcoming season.

Q: With the offseason almost behind you, what are your plans heading into the 2025 season?
Maddux Pepin: “I’m focused on building on the success of last year. Claiming Rookie of the Year and finishing 6th in points was a huge milestone, but now I’m looking to take it up a notch. My dad and I have been working hard on fine-tuning the car and making sure it's in top shape for this season. The goal is to refine my driving skills, stay sharp, and make smart decisions on track. I’m pushing myself to get faster and more consistent this year.”
Q: What are your main goals for this season?
Maddux Pepin: “This season is all about development. I want to be more consistent and improve my technique on the track. I aim to stay aggressive but avoid mistakes, focusing on making strategic adjustments during races. It's all about refining every aspect of my performance, and I’m ready to tackle whatever challenges come my way.”

Q: What event are you most looking forward to this year?
Maddux Pepin: “I’m really looking forward to Meet the Drivers Night. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with the fans and share the experience with them. Interacting with the fans and going on track with my fellow CVM drivers is always a fun time. It’s a great way to build a connection between the drivers and the people who support us. It’s always a memorable evening!”

Q: Who is your toughest competitor heading into this season?
Maddux Pepin: “My toughest competitor will definitely be my dad, who drives the #43 Peps Pro Painting CVM. Racing against him is always intense because we both bring a high level of competition to the track. He’s a great motivator, and it pushes me to perform at my best. It’s going to be exciting to see what we can accomplish this season.”

Q: If you’re traveling, what track are you most looking forward to this year?
Maddux Pepin: “While the Grindstone Landscaping Canadian Vintage Modifieds' series isn’t traveling this year, I’m looking forward to racing at our home track, Flamboro Speedway. There's something special about racing where it all began, and it feels great to compete in front of family, friends, and fans. I’m also looking forward to supporting my sister, Ten Pepin, who’ll be racing at Sauble Speedway with the Pro Challenge Series. I’ll be part of her pit crew with our team, JTM Racing. It’s going to be a great season for both of us!”

Q: Was there something from 2024 that you’re carrying into the 2025 season?
Maddux Pepin: “Absolutely. I’m taking the lessons I learned last year—mainly about consistency and staying focused under pressure—into this season. I’ve learned to stay calm, adapt to challenges, and trust my skills. I’m also carrying the momentum from the latter half of 2024, where I saw significant improvement in my performance. That confidence is going to help me push myself even further this year.”
