The 2023 edition of the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo is in the books and boy was it a great weekend. A lot of great looking cars. From Hall 1 to Hall 3 it was just packed and in my opinion the place to be this weekend was Hall 1b in the Racers Corral. Four JoMo Media drivers had there car in the show for the weekend. Michael Kenny and his #07 and Mike Thomson with his #16 were apart of the Flamboro Speedway booth for the weekend. BT Racing brought Miss Penny's #22P all the way from London for the show. Jae Pepin and his #43 were displayed in the Young Drivers Canadian Vintage Modified booth.
Over the course of three days thousands of people stop by and saw the cars and the drivers. We caught up with a couple of them to talk about their weekend. First up we talked to Michael Kenny and these are his thoughts on the weekend. "This was our second appearance at the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo. It's always a great to be invited as this time around Flamboro Speedway had asked us to be apart of their booth". First time Michael was in Motorama was during the 2020 edition of the show that ended a day early. Michael added " It was great being back around fans and other competitors since last season". Catch Michael this summer at Flamboro Speedway as he chases a Championship in the Mini Stock division.
We were able to chat with Mike Thomson about his weekend at the show. "It was great seeing everyone again, winters can be hard on us mentally and to see most of my racing friends was awesome, It was great spending time talking to Michael (Kenny) and Jon (Morrison) talking about racing". Throughout the weekend there were many people stopping by and asking Mike questions about his car and racing at Flamboro Speedway. Many competitors came up to talk to Mike and he spoke about that comradery. "There isn't one racer that weekend who you couldn't talk to. They all do it for the same reason I do. Go out have fun and help each other when needed". Mike would go on to win Outstanding Mini Stock at Motorama. Catch Mike this summer racing at Flamboro Speedway competing for the track championship.
Miss Penny debuted her brand new ride for the 2023 season. Making the long trek from the London area for this weekend it was good seeing BT Racing enter a car into the show for the weekend. When asked about Motorama BT Racing mastermind Kris Lawrence had this to say. "It was a really good show, Motorama is worth going to each year. The toughest part about entering a car is spending in Toronto makes it a little exhausting". The uniqueness of the show is what drives fans and competitors alike to the International Centre for the three day event. " Ya the show had good variety, the night of champions is cool because drivers get recognized at the show for their accomplishments". You will be able to watch Miss Penny, Kris Lawrence and the entire BT Racing team at a track near you this summer.
Finally we get to the Young Drivers Canadian Vintage Modified driver Jae Pepin. Jae took the lead in organizing everything for the show to make sure the club was well represented. That is why of course the 2022 best appearing car had to be in the show alongside the 2022 Champion T.J Marshall. Jae would walk away from the show with some hardware grabbing the Most Outstanding Vintage Modified award at the show. " Motorama was an amazing event, well organized and the staff was very welcoming and supportive". Jae added "So many drivers from the past came up and told us stories about days gone by and of course having young fans sit in your car. It's amazing to see them get their first taste of racing". You can watch Jae this summer race at Flamboro Speedway in the Young Drivers Canadian Vintage Modifieds.
It was so much fun walking around and getting the chance to talk to so many drivers we're working with in 2023 as well as just getting to talk to racers in general. Being at the show around so many good looking race cars is getting me excited for the new race season!
